Grown by Hand. Guided by Nature.
No till. No chemicals. Just compost, water, and love.
Nestled on the edge of an old cedar forest, Emerald Grove is more than a farm—it’s a living expression of permaculture ethics. Every carrot, tomato, and lettuce leaf is grown by hand, without machinery or synthetic inputs. Just soil, seeds, and patience. We follow nature’s lead, using only compost, water, and care. The result? Nutrient-dense food you can trust—grown in harmony with the land.

The most common questions we get asked are:
Emerald Grove is not certified organic by choice. We don't believe in paying for a certification that is used by industrial agriculture and still allows "Organic" chemical inputs.
We refer to our food as naturally grown because we only use soil, compost, and water. We don't spray at all, or even use other inputs. We keep it simple with a high quality composted chicken manure sourced from an Organic BC poultry farm, and manage the garden in a No-til system.
No we do not spray any chemicals. To manage pests we use Protek Net insect mesh, and plant flowers to attract a diversity of beneficial insects that keep the farm a balanced ecosystem.
To manage weeds we use hand tools and hard work. The good old fashioned way to grow food.
Emerald Grove is located in Winlaw BC about 40 minutes from Castlegar, Nelson, and New Denver.

Permaculture is a way of growing food and living in harmony with nature by designing systems that care for the Earth, care for people, and share the abundance.
Taking a Permaculture Design Course and diving into books was a key step early in my journey as a grower. That foundation shaped how I farm today—by thinking holistically, learning from nature, and growing in a way that gives back to the land.
